A Beginner’s Guide to Skincare

A Beginner’s Guide to Skincare

Skincare has rapidly become a primary focus in the beauty industry. This shift is understandable; to achieve a glowing complexion and flawless makeup application, taking good care of your skin is essential. Plus, there are days when you’d like to confidently step out without any makeup, right?

With the overwhelming amount of information available, figuring out the right products to use can be daunting. That’s why I’ve put together this beginner’s guide to skincare. The basic products you need fall into three essential categories: Cleanser, Moisturizer, and Sunscreen. Yes, you read that correctly—less is more!

Cleanser – The first step in any skincare routine is using a cleanser. Cleansers remove dead skin cells, makeup, oil, dirt, and other impurities from the face. There are various types of cleansers suited for different skin types. For recommendations, check out my post on the top five face cleansers.

Moisturizer – Moisturizers are crucial for keeping the skin hydrated, youthful, and protected, especially in cold or dry environments. They can be classified as emollients, occlusives, or humectants. For my top picks, see my post on the best face moisturizers.

Sunscreen – This is the final and arguably the most important step in any skincare routine. Sunscreens are available in lotions, gels, sprays, and more. They protect the skin from UVA and UVB rays, preventing premature aging, dark spots, sunburns, and skin cancer. For my favorite sunscreens, check out my top five list.

By sticking to these three essential steps, you’ll establish a solid skincare routine. Additional products like serums, treatments, and exfoliators can be introduced later in your skincare journey. I’ll cover these in a future post. I hope this beginner’s guide proves helpful.
